Conference

The holistic web conference

How much information do you want at once? Yes.

In June 2018, I joined a five-day conference in Berlin. The webinale. During the week-long event, more than 30 speakers present their topics from a wide range of branches.

Dit find ick knorke! - I think this Berlin sentence sums up the webinale very well. Because during the five-day flood of information, I was able to lick all ten of my fingers afterwards. My developer heart beat faster when I heard words like progressive web apps, accessibility and web performance optimization.

The ironic part of the whole thing? I can remember almost nothing about the presentations.

Yeah well, you also have to say that while I'm writing this text here already 3 years have passed. So, it's okay to forget stuff, right? Nevertheless, I would like to point out that I still have the slides from the Progressive Web App Bootcamp! Furthermore, this workshop has contributed to the fact that I still have a lot of desire to build a Progressive Web App myself!

And as I wander through the webinale archives, the memories come back to me. Especially the presentation, which has nothing to do with my passion, fascinated me the most. The Chinese Social Credit System.

What is the Social Credit System? In short, people earn points and are rewarded or punished based on their behavior. Depending on how they behave.

Katika Kühnreich gave an interesting presentation on this topic, which I would recommend to anyone interested in the subject. She gave an overview of the system and the impact of gamified scoring systems on society. Awesome!

Despite my lack of memory in this regard, I can at least say that the conference inspired me in the long term and I was able to take away a lot of food for thought. Oh, and there was also a free tablet.
